The Board of Aldermen of the Town of Anderson met in regular open session in the American Legion Building in Anderson, Texas, at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2008. Mayor Gail Sowell, Aldermen David Heyman, Ernest Henderson, Nominee Daryl Alford, Alderwoman Erna Freeman, and Attorney Lovett Boggess were present. Aldermen Bill Robinett and Tom Johanson were absent.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.
Guests in attendance included Cindy Bell, Chester Finke and Jamie Schultz.
Mayor Sowell asked that minutes from the regular meeting held on Thursday, November 8, 2007 be considered/approved. Alderwoman Erna Freeman made a motion to accept the minutes. Alderman Ernest Henderson seconded the motion; all members present voted in favor of the motion.
Mayor Sowell asked council members to approve payment to USDA due February 1, 2008 for $10,950.00. Motion to make the payment was made by Alderwoman Erna Freeman. Alderman Ernest Henderson seconded the motion that was approved by all members present.
Mayor Sowell asked council members to consider/approve a letter of resignation from Alderman Bill Robinett. Alderman David Heyman made a motion to accept the resignation; Alderman Ernest Henderson seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor of the motion.
Mayor Sowell asked council members to consider/approve appointment of Daryl Alford to fill the vacancy of Bill Robinett until his tenure is up in May, 2008. Proper paperwork would be prepared for the appointment. Alderman David Heyman made a motion to accept the appointment of Daryl Alford to fill the vacancy; Alderwoman Erna Freeman seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor of the motion.
Mayor Sowell asked the members of the council to consider authorizing an agreement between Anderson-Shiro CISD and the Town of Anderson to hold a joint election (if needed) per state statute. Members present agreed to pursue an agreement again this year with the school district.
Mayor Sowell then discussed the possibility of securing new office space in the newly built Volunteer Fire Dept. Building for $450 per month. After discussing the “pros and cons” of such a move, Alderwoman Erna Freeman asked the council to hold off on making a decision for a few weeks. Item was tabled until further notice.
Alderman David Heyman made a motion that all invoices currently due and payable be paid. Alderman Ernest Henderson seconded the motion; all members present voted in favor of the motion.
