REGULAR MEETING
The Board of Aldermen of the Town of Anderson met in regular open session at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 10l, 2013 in the American Legion Building in Anderson, Texas. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pro-Tem Erna Freeman. The Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Allegiance were recited.
Members present included Mayor Pro-Tem Erna Freeman, Alderman Joe Boudreaux, Alderwomen Carol Debose and Karen McDuffie-Melton. Members absent were Mayor Gail Sowell, Alderman Tom Johanson and City Attorney Angela Collier Seager.
Visitors present included Chester Finke and Cindy Bell.
Remarks of visitors are as follows: Cindy Bell reported that the Chamber of Commerce Banquet is to be held on Jan. 19th.
Minutes of previous meeting held on December 13, 2012 were read by each board member present. A motion was made to approve the minutes as written by Joe Boudreaux. The motion was seconded by Carol DeBose. All approved, motion carried.
Mayor Pro-Tem Erna Freeman paraphrased a letter explaining that Angela Collier-Seager offered to stay on as the Town of Anderson attorney. Discussion followed. A motion was made to approve Angela Collier-Seager staying on as Town of Anderson attorney. The motion was seconded by Carol DeBose. All approved, motion carried.
Angela Collier Seager provided the board with a written Status Update/Memorandum. She stated that she mailed requests for bids for demolition of the Peavy property, located at the corner of Fanthrop and FM 1774, also known locally as the “Terrell House” to John Welsey and Charles Leiber. She also requested that the bid request be posted in the newspaper as public notice on the 16th and 23rd. In the bid request it was stated that sealed bids be received by February 7, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. All were in agreement. Joe Boudreaux stated that the board needs to look at the ordinance and amend it so it states that we no longer need a warrant in the future to enter a condemned property for bids. This will be looked into at another time.
Joe Boudreaux made a motion to pay bills as noted. Carol DeBose seconded the motion. All approved. Mary Bostelman reported that there was one bill totaling 619.10 for the Anderson Water Company that arrived after the printing of the bills noted. Explanations of the (3) invoices were read with the amounts totaling 619.10. Joe Bourdeaux made motion to amend the prior motion to pay bills as noted and presented. Carol DeBose seconded the motion. All approved, motion carried. A suggestion was made to have a representative of the water company to be present at meetings to explain repairs and invoices.
There was no closed session.
Mayor Pro-Tem, Erna Freeman reported there was a letter of appreciation and support of Becky Duff typed and ready for all Board members to sign if they were in agreement of this support and appreciation that Becky Duff has provided. All present were in agreement and signed the letter.
Meeting was adjourned: 7:27 p.m. Next meeting scheduled: February 14, 2013 at 7:00p.m.
