The Board of Aldermen of the Town of Anderson met in regular open session in the American Legion Building in Anderson, Texas, at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2007. Mayor Gail Sowell, Aldermen David Heyman, Tom Johanson, Ernest Henderson, Alderwoman Erna Freeman, and Attorney Lovett Boggess were present. Alderman Bill Robinett was absent.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.
Guests in attendance included Maurine Wehmeyer, Cindy Bell and Ronnie Hale and Steve Winckler of Entergy. Mr. Hale and Mr. Winkler spoke briefly advising council members of work on lines planned for Anderson, Shiro, and Roans Prairie.
Mayor Sowell asked that minutes from the regular meeting held on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006 be considered/approved. Alderman Ernest Henderson made a motion to accept the minutes. Alderman David Heyman seconded the motion; all members present voted in favor of the motion.
Alderman Tom Johanson made a motion that all invoices currently due and payable be paid. Alderman Ernest Henderson seconded the motion; all members present voted in favor of the motion.
Mayor Sowell asked council members to approve payment to USDA due February 1, 2007 for $10,062.50. Motion to make the payment was made by David Heyman; Ernest Henderson seconded the motion that was approved by all members present.
As per House Bill 1 stating that city and school in a municipality hold joint elections, Mayor Sowell informed the council of a recent meeting with School Superintendent Brent, his secretary Pat Sechelski and County Elections Coordinator Becky Duff. Basic information and a copy of a joint-agreement between the city and school district were presented to all members for approval. Alderman Tom Johanson made a motion to give Mayor Sowell authority to go forward with all necessary agreements between the city, school and county to prepare for future elections. This approval would also give authority for Mayor to call or not call a sales tax election in May. Alderman Ernest Henderson seconded the motion; all members present voted in favor of the motion.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
