The Board of Aldermen of the Town of Anderson met in regular open session in the American Legion Building in Anderson, Texas, at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2004. Mayor Gail Sowell, Alderman David Heyman, Alderwoman Betty Pavlock, Alderman F. D. Calhoun, Alderman Bill Robinett and Attorney Lovett Boggess were present. Alderman Tom Johanson arrived at 7:15 p.m.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.
The Mayor asked that minutes from the regular meeting held on Thurs., December 11, 2003 be considered/approved. Alderman David Heyman made a motion to approve the minutes as presented; Alderman Bill Robinett seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Mayor Sowell asked the Board to consider/authorize the use of JoAnn Rood of Freeman’s Tax Service to file all required forms for employees and others who worked for the city during 2003. Alderman Bill Robinett made a motion that we use Ms. Rood; Alderman F. D. Calhoun seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Mayor Sowell asked the board to consider/authorize payment of employer and employee’s shares of Social Security and Medicare tax due for the year 2003. Alderman F. D. Calhoun made a motion to authorize the payment; Alderman David Heyman seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Mayor Sowell asked the Board to consider/approve a gift of 1/3 acre to the town from Derald Hudson and Group—with a stipulation that the donor would incur no cost. The acreage is located along Hwy 1774 from the old Schroeder Processing Plant to the lift station. A motion to accept the land gift was made by Alderman F. D. Calhoun. Alderman Bill Robinett seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Mayor Sowell discussed with the Board of Alderman the need to establish committees to help determine problems the town needs to focus its resources on during 2004–in the areas of street repairs, sewer and drainage problems. A brief discussion followed.
Mayor Sowell briefly discussed the city election scheduled for May 15th. The date was changed to the third Saturday of the month this year.
Alderman Bill Robinett moved that all invoices currently due and payable be ordered paid. Alderman F. D. Calhoun seconded the motion. The motion carried.
