BOARD OF ALDERMEN

THE TOWN OF ANDERSON, TEXAS

February 11, 2010

The Board of Aldermen of the Town of Anderson met in regular open session in the American Legion Building in Anderson, Texas, at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 11, 2010. Mayor Gail Sowell, Alderwoman Erna Freeman, Aldermen Daryl Alford and Carol DeBose, newly named Alderwoman, were present. Aldermen Tom Johanson, Joe Boudreaux and Attorney John DeMille were absent.

Guests in attendance for the meeting were Cindy Bell and Chester Finke.

The meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m.

Mayor Sowell presided at the “swearing in” of the Board’s new Alderwoman, Carol DeBose. At that point there was a quorum present and the meeting began.

Mayor Sowell asked that minutes from the regular meeting held on Thurs., Jan. 14, 2010 be approved. Alderwoman Freeman made a motion to accept the minutes as presented, Alderman Alford seconded the motion. No changes were required, all members present voted in favor of accepting the minutes as presented.

Members were asked to consider and approve the adoption of an Order of Election (Ordinance No. 75-10) for May 8, 2010 for the purpose of electing three 2-year terms for Alderman positions currently held by Erna Freeman, Daryl Alford and Joe Boudreaux. Alderman Daryl Alford made a motion to approve the adoption; Alderwoman Erna Freeman seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor of the adoption.

Members were asked to consider/approve a Joint Election Agreement between Anderson-Shiro CISD and the Town of Anderson to hold an election per state statute. In this same motion, members were asked to consider/approve an agreement between the Town of Anderson and the County of Grimes authorizing the Election Administrator Becky Duff to conduct the election. Alderwoman Freeman made the motion to accept both agreements; Alderwoman DeBose seconded. All members present voted in favor of the agreements

Mayor Sowell discussed the possibility of issuing a letter to all residents of Anderson explaining the timeline and importance of filing the 2010 census forms (due to be mailed early in March.) The forms will be mailed to all residents who have street addresses—all residents using a post office box will be visited in person by census takers.

Alderwoman Freeman made a motion to approve payment of all invoices current due and payable. Alderwoman DeBose seconded the motion; all members present voted in favor of the motion.

Mayor Sowell discussed miscellaneous projects within the city with the members.

Meeting was adjourned at 7:43 p.m.
