Members Present: Gail Sowell, Mayor; Alderwomen: Carol DeBose, Karen McDuffie; Aldermen: Tom Johanson (arrived 7:14 P.M.), Joe Boudreaux
Members Absent: Erna Freeman
Anderson Attorney Present: Michael R. Casaretto
Visitors Present: Cindy Bell, Kim Williams, Catera Mueller, Johnny McNally, Louise Sanders, Ken Sanders, William Smith
There was a quorum thus a public open meeting was called to order at 7:02 P.M. by Mayor Gail Sowell. Pledges were recited and visitor Mr. Sanders had the invocation.
Remarks of visitors:
Cindy Bell reported that there are some problems with the irrigation system in the flowers on Main Street. She also noted that the flowers have not been trimmed. Secretary Mary Bostelman will contact Wise Landscaping about the issues. Kim Williams was on hand to update the board on the upcoming Easter egg hunt being held on April 26, 2016. She requested that the town allow the Anderson Baptist church to block off Johnson St. temporarily between the hours of 8:30 A.M. and Noon to assure the safety of the children during the hunt and games. The alderman voiced no opposition to that request. Navasota /Grimes County Chamber of Commerce Director, Johnny McNally updated the board on chamber events.
Minutes of previous meeting held on Thursday, February 18, 2016 were read by each board member present. A motion was made by Joe Boudreaux to approve the minutes as written. The motion was seconded by Carol DeBose. All approved, motion carried.
Joe Boudreaux made a motion to table # 4 Anderson Water Co. consumption water report and adopt a rate for sewer services for services March 2016 thru Feb 2017 until the April 14,2016 regular session council meeting. Karen McDuffie seconded the motion. All approved, motion carried.
Joe Boudreaux made a motion to accept the certificate of unopposed candidates from Election Administrator Rebecca Duff dated 3-7-2016 and issue and adopt order # 70-16 declaring unopposed candidates for the three vacant un-numbered position elected aldermen of the Town of Anderson as well as the election to be held on May 7, 2016 be cancelled. Karen McDuffie seconded the motion. All approved, motion carried.
Joe Boudreaux made a motion to table #6 on the agenda to discuss/ consider/ approve annexation of proposed sub-division per request of Miriah Cunneen until further clarification of annexation requests. Tom Johanson seconded the motion. All approved, motion carried.
Joe Boudreaux made a motion to approve the Proclamation read by Mayor Gail Sowell stating that on the 4th Day of March, 2016 the Town of Anderson recognized and hosted the “Polish Agricultural Delegation” and proclaimed March 4, 2016 as Polish Agricultural Delegation Day in the Town of Anderson. Carol DeBose seconded the motion. All approved, motion carried.
Karen McDuffie approved RSVP Proclamation read by Mayor Gail Sowell declaring April 5, 2016 as National Service Recognition Day. Carol DeBose seconded the motion. All approved, motion carried.
Tom Johanson made a motion to pay bills currently due as presented. Joe Boudreaux seconded the motion. All approved, motion carried.
Tom Johanson made a motion to approve a joint effort with Cindy Bell for the Chamber Mixer being held on March 24, 2016 from 5:30-7:30 P.M. at Maggie’s Loft on Main St., Anderson. Joe Boudreaux seconded the motion. All approved, motion carried.
Mayor Sowell and Karen McDuffie will get flyers ready for the Town of Anderson Clean-up Day scheduled for April 30, 2016. Karen will contact the Brazos Valley Waste Management about a dumpster for the day. Tom Johanson will man the sewer plant dumpsite all day 9:00 AM-5:00 PM. Mayor Sowell will put the information in the Anderson column of the Examiner as well as contact the adult probation crew for help during that day.
Michael Casaretto stated he sent an e-mail to Mr. John Fultz in regards to the county possibly getting involved in the slave cemetery issues. He also stated he is working on the annexation request of Miriah Cunneen.
