The Board of Aldermen of the Town of Anderson met in regular open session in the American Legion Building in Anderson, Texas, at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2004. Mayor Gail Sowell, Attorney Lovett Boggess, Aldermen Bill Robinett, F. D. Calhoun, Tom Johanson and David Heyman were present. Alderwoman Betty Pavlock was absent.
The meeting was called to order at 7:25 p.m.
The Mayor asked that minutes from the regular meeting held on Thurs., March 11, 2004 be considered/approved. Alderman Tom Johanson made a motion to approve the minutes as presented; Alderman F. D. Calhoun seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Mayor Sowell asked the members to consider/approve a resolution canceling the Alderman Election ordered by the Board of Aldermen to be held on May 15, 2004, for the purpose of electing 3 Aldermen. (None of the 3 candidates for 3 positions was opposed at the close of business at 5:00 p.m. March 15, and no one filed stating his/her intent to be a write-in candidate within the statutory time limit). Alderman Bill Robinett made a motion to approve the resolution to cancel the election; Alderman F. D. Calhoun seconded the motion, which received unanimous approval.
Alderman David Heyman moved that all invoices currently due and payable be ordered paid. Alderman Bill Robinett seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously.
Mayor Sowell asked the Aldermen to consider/approve reimbursement of a portion of her telephone costs each month inasmuch as a large portion of her calls are business calls. After some discussion Alderman Tom Johanson suggested that the Mayor obtain a cell phone to use for town business; Alderman F. D. Calhoun seconded the suggestion. The motion was unanimously approved. Mayor Sowell agreed to review various cell phones to determine which type would be best for the town’s use and will report her findings at the May meeting.
Mayor Sowell asked the Aldermen to consider holding a special meeting to discuss (at length) the town’s closed streets. This request was tabled until the summer months.
