Members Present: Gail Sowell, Mayor; Erna Freeman, Mayor Pro-Tem; Alderwomen: Carol DeBose, Karen McDuffie-Melton; Aldermen: Joe Boudreaux, Tom Johanson
Anderson Attorney Present: Angela Seager
Visitors Present: Chester Finke, Cindy Bell, Betty Pavlock, Ken Sanders, Louise Sanders, Les Shipman, Lanell Szymczak, Brett Mize, Ricky Bernard, Julie Wehmeyer.
There was a quorum thus a public open meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Mayor Gail Sowell. The Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Allegiance were recited.
Board listened to the remarks made by visitors Cindy Bell, Les Shipman, Lanell Szymczak and Brett Mize. Mayor Sowell thanked everyone for their remarks. She and the Aldermen will look over everyone’s concerns.
Minutes of previous meeting held on March 14, 2013 were read by each board member present. A motion was made to approve the minutes as written by Tom Johanson. The motion was seconded by Joe Boudreaux. All approved, motion carried.
Mr. Brian Griesbach, Director of Brazos Valley Solid Waste Management was unable to attend the meeting and sent his report with Alderwoman Karen McDuffie-Melton. The upcoming cleanup for April 20 was discussed and the plan is set to go.
Janeth Nevill from the Master Gardeners gave a report that TxDot prefers to deal with the city/and or county due to insurance purposes. TxDot requested that the town of Anderson fill out the application and be approved by the Council. A motion was made by Alderwoman, Erna Freeman that the Mayor will sign off as a city if the town attorney, Angela Seager has no problem with the application. The motion was seconded by Joe Bourdeaux. All approved. Motion carried.
Mary Fagan and family were to attend meeting to discuss/make request concerning their property near the town’s lift station on FM 1774. However, Mary Fagan and/or family were not present. Alderwoman Erna Freeman gave a brief synopsis about the property and noted that she informed the Fagans that if the town received the property, legally it would have to go to bids first.
Anderson Water Company representatives, Ricky Bernard and Julie Wehmeyer were present to explain some issues that the town of Anderson’s sewer system is experiencing due to the age of the system and the depth of the system, which is causing deterioration on sewer taps. A report from Anderson Water Co. is attached. Ricky gave a very detailed explanation of the problems occurring now as well as what is needed to do repairs in the future. Alderwoman, Erna Freeman will contact Steve Duncan for his personal opinion regarding the problems with the sewer system. Alderman Joe Bourdeaux made a motion to allow Anderson Water Co. to hire Road Runner Plumbing and Sewer to do a scope to address the present tap problem. Alderwoman Erna Freeman seconded the motion. All were in favor. Motion passed.
Mayor Gail Sowell brought up the possibility of changing the date of the next council meeting in May because of the election. Alderwoman Erna Freeman made a motion to change the meeting to May 16th at 7:00 P.M. Karen McDuffie-Melton seconded the motion. All approved. Motion passed.
Joe Boudreaux made a motion to pay bills as noted with the amendment of Angela Collier-Seager’s invoice. Carol DeBose seconded the motion. All approved, motion carried.
Open session closed at 8:15 P.M.
Board entered into closed session at 8:18 P.M. The Board and Mayor discussed legal matters with Town of Anderson Attorney, Angela Collier-Seager.
Closed session and regular meeting adjourned at 9:00 P.M.
