BOARD OF ALDERMEN

The Board of Aldermen of the Town of Anderson met in regular open session in the American Legion Building in Anderson, Texas, at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2005. Mayor Gail Sowell, Alderwoman Erna Freeman, Aldermen David Heyman and Tom Johanson were present. Alderman Bill Robinett and Attorney Lovett Boggess were absent.
The meeting was called to order at 7:12 p.m.
Guests present at the meeting included Cindy Bell, Mary Cunningham (Director of the Chamber of Commerce), and John and Rosa DeMille.
Ms. V. L. Snider, CPA, presented her audit of the financial and other pertinent records of the Town of Anderson for FY 2003-2004. In her report she indicated that the records presented were in good order. David Heyman made a motion to accept the reports as presented by Ms. Snider. Alderwoman Erna Freeman seconded his motion; all members present voted in favor of accepting the reports.
The Mayor asked that minutes from the regular meeting held on Thurs., March 10, 2005 be considered/approved. Alderman Tom Johanson made a motion to approve the minutes as presented; Alderman David Heyman seconded the motion. The motion carried.
Mayor Sowell asked the members of the board to approve a resolution canceling the election that had been ordered held on May 7, 2005 covering election of a mayor and two aldermen. There was no opposition candidate for any one of these positions at the close of business on March 14, 2005, and no one filed an intent to be a write-in candidate within the statutory time limit. Alderwoman Erna Freeman made a motion to approve the resolution. Alderman David Heyman seconded the motion. All members present approved the resolution.
Ms. Mary Cunningham of the Chamber of Commerce was present to talk to the council about the organization. Mayor Sowell asked the members present to consider joining the membership. Alderman Tom Johanson made a motion that the Town of Anderson join the chamber. Alderman David Heyman seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor of the motion.
Alderwoman Erna Freeman moved that all invoices currently due and payable be ordered paid. Alderman Tom Johanson seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor of the motion.
Mayor Sowell discussed progress on current projects and miscellaneous items with the members of the board. (1) Carl Schroeder said he would see about adding a shoulder for parking on the spur behind the courthouse – hopefully to be done in May or June. (2) Robert Lys indicated that the RAP should be picked up in May. (3) Several members mentioned the lack of adequate street lights in town at this time. They suggested that Mayor Sowell meet with the Judge to consider county participation in covering the cost of bringing the lighting up to par.
