The Board of Aldermen of the Town of Anderson met in regular open session in the American Legion Building in Anderson, Texas, at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2005. Present were Mayor Gail Sowell, Alderwoman Erna Freeman, Aldermen David Heyman, Bill Robinett, Tom Johanson, Ernest Henderson and Attorney Lovett Boggess.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.
Guests present at the meeting were Cindy Bell and Ronnie Hale representing Entergy.
Mr. Hale discussed the electrical problems that occurred in the Willis & Beaumont areas which affected many communities-including Anderson. He also mentioned that Alderman Ernest Henderson had spoken with him regarding streetlights in Anderson and the ones not working properly around the courthouse. Mr. Hale advised that he would meet with Mayor Sowell to look over the lighting situation throughout the town.
Mayor Sowell advised the members that she had spoken with Robert Lys. He advised her that the RAP material would be hauled on June 21. Mr. Lys checked the cost for adding oil for the RAP to be effective and guessed it would be in the range of $9,000.00.
Mayor Sowell asked the councils’ help in determining the order of streets most in need of repair. It was determined that a committee be appointed to go to the county commissioners to set a timetable for repairs in motion. Council members asked the mayor to seek bids on all roadwork needed in town and report back at the next meeting.
Miscellaneous problems were also brought to the attention of the council. Alderwoman Freeman advised that the culvert located at Buffington & Fanthorp is starting to cave in. Attorney Boggess mentioned that someone had run down a road sign at his business a while back and has not been repaired. Mayor Sowell said she would contact TxDOT.
Mayor Sowell asked that minutes from the regular meeting held on Thursday, May 12, 2005 be considered/approved. Alderman David Heyman made a motion to approve minutes as presented; Alderman Ernest Henderson seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor of the motion.
Alderwoman Erna Freeman moved that all invoices currently due and payable be ordered paid. Alderman Bill Robinett seconded the motion; all members present voted in favor of the motion.
