The Board of Aldermen of the Town of Anderson met in regular open session in the American Legion Building in Anderson, Texas, at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010. Present were Mayor Gail Sowell, Alderwoman Erna Freeman, Aldermen Tom Johanson,, Daryl Alford, Joe Boudreaux, Attorney John DeMille. Alderwoman Carol DeBose was absent.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.
Minutes of the meeting of June 17, 2010 were presented for review. Alderwoman Freeman made a motion they be approved as presented. Alderman Boudreaux seconded the motion; all members present voted in favor of the motion.
Mayor Sowell presented a cost estimate packet from the Grimes County Road & Bridge Dept. on proposed paving locations to all members and asked for discussion. After a lengthy discussion on Schroeder Street, it was suggested that this area be tabled until further information on the street be gathered. Alderman Alford made a motion to table this item. Alderman Boudreaux seconded the motion.
It was discussed and members also agreed not to pave the a section between the homes of Tom Johanson and Don Sowell that goes from Buffington St. to FM 149; and the section between Pasket Tire and the Blackshear’s that goes from Main St. to Hwy. 90. More discussion took place on the paving of Pecan St. Alderman Johanson was firmly against the paving of this street and Alderman Alford wasn’t too familiar with the situation and asked questions concerning the street. After discussions of all the streets, Alderwoman Freeman made the motion to pave the sections of the corners of Johnson St. and Fanthorp St.; the edge of Stone Lane to connect with Main St.; the V-shaped area off of Johnson St. and road leading to the gate of the sewer plant; front and side of the Anderson Volunteer Fire Dept.; and a short section of Pecan St.; Alderman Alford seconded the motion, 3 members voted in favor; Alderman Johanson voted against, and Alderman Alford abstained.
Mayor Sowell asked members to approve payment of invoices currently due and payable including semi-annual payment to USDA; payment of the oil for the RAP to Cleveland Asphalt; and a portion of the Hahn bill excluding payment on the new lift station. Motion was made by Alderwoman Freeman to pay all bills due; Alderman Boudreaux seconded the motion; all members present voted in favor of the motion.
