MINUTES OF MEETING

OF

BOARD OF ALDERMEN

THE TOWN OF ANDERSON, TEXAS

July 12, 2012 The Board of Aldermen of the Town of Anderson met in regular open session in the American Legion Building in Anderson, Texas, at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2012. Present were Mayor Gail Sowell, Aldermen Erna Freeman, Carol DeBose, Tom Johanson, Karen McDuffie-Melton, Joe Boudreaux and City Attorney Angela Collier.

Visitors included Cindy Bell, Chester Finke, Daryl, Mandi and Dagan Alford, Clint & Kim Capps, Joanne Minsky, Tony and Betty Pavlock, Dale Alford, Pam Szymanski, Lisa, John, Jack and Emily Hall, Susan Boudreaux, Billy Bean, Pastor Kyle Childress, Randy and Beverly Harbor, Ken & Louise Saunders and others.

Upon the outcome of the runoff election, Attorney Angela Collier swore Alderman Joe Boudreaux into the council.

Mike Peterson spoke to the members of the council about a proposed business he was planning for the old feed store right in town next to the home of Joe Gust. The business would be a type of bar with food, music and occasional live bands. He answered questions from many who were concerned about the atmosphere it would make in the center of town.

Daryl Alford, former Alderman, spoke for the townspeople against the bar. He presented a petition with 108 signatures on it against the business. Alford asked the council to look at making ordinances in the city that would prevent businesses such as these to be put in town as well as a noise ordinance.

Mayor Sowell asked members to read and approve minutes from the regular open meeting held on June 14th, and the canvassing of votes meeting on June 26, 2012. Alderman Freeman made a motion to accept both sets of minutes as presented, Alderman Johanson seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor of the motion.

Mayor asked members to approve payment of all bills due and payable. Mentioned was the large total cost for both elections this year. Alderman Johanson made a motion to pay all bills; Alderman Boudreaux seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor of the motion.

Alderman De Bose presented pictures and comments from many of her neighbors who want something done with those places in the near future. Visitors complained about the sides of the streets needing to be mowed. Mayor Sowell reminded folks that the county mows for us twice a year.

The meeting was closed at 8:27 P.M to go into closed session. Members went into closed session at 8:40 p.m. and re-convened in regular session at 9:06 p.m. Attorney Collier made a statement to the public on the condemnation process.

Miscellaneous items were discussed and meeting was closed at 9:25 p.m.
