The Board of Aldermen of the Town of Anderson met in regular open session at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2008 in the American Legion Building in Anderson, Texas. Members present included Aldermen David Heyman, Ernest Henderson, Tom Johanson and Alderwoman Erna Freeman. Alderman Daryl Alford was absent.
Guests present at this meeting included Cindy Bell, Maurine Wehmeyer, Cori Money, John Linden, Jamie Schulz, Ronnie Hale of Entergy and Lovett Boggess.
Mr. Ronnie Hale of Entergy met with the members of the Board to discuss the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. He expressed appreciation for the patience of the local residents who experienced loss of electricity for extended periods of time.
Mayor Sowell introduced Cori Mooney, Crime Victims Coordinator, who addressed the council asking for approval of a proclamation making October Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Alderman David Heyman made a motion to approve the proclamation. Alderwoman Erna Freeman seconded the motion; all members present voted in favor.
John Linden, representing Fanthorp Inn State Park, spoke to the members of the Council about future plans for the Inn and to discuss requirements for annexation into the city. Mayor Sowell said she had spoken with TML. She will review the material and get back to him.
Mayor Sowell asked that minutes from the regular meeting held on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008 be considered/approved. Alderwoman Erna Freeman made a motion to accept the minutes as presented. Alderman Tom Johanson seconded the motion; all members present voted in favor of the motion.
Mayor Sowell asked that Ms. Stanley discuss the official budgets for 2008-2009 and amended budgets for 2007-2008 that were approved at the September meeting from worksheets. Due to Hurricane Ike, formal copies were not available.
Mayor Sowell asked for a motion to approve payment of all invoices and accounts currently due and payable. Alderman Tom Johanson made the motion; Alderman Ernest Henderson seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor.
