MINUTES OF MEETING
OF
BOARD OF ALDERMEN
THE TOWN OF ANDERSON, TEXAS
December 9, 2010
State of Texas
County of Grimes
The Board of Aldermen of the Town of Anderson met in regular open session in the American Legion Building in Anderson, Texas, at 7.00 p.m. Thursday, December 9, 2010. Mayor Gail Sowell, Aldermen Joe Boudreaux, Daryl Alford; Alderwomen Erna Freeman, Carol DeBose, and Attorney John DeMille were present. Alderman Tom Johanson was absent.
The meeting was called to order at 7.00 p.m.
Guests in attendance included Cindy Bell, Chester Finke, Kim Falcon, Brandi DeBose, Mrs. Susan Boudreaux, Mrs. Mandy Alford and son Dagan, and former Mayor, John Freeman.
Mayor Sowell asked for approval of the minutes of the meeting held on Wednesday, November 10, 2010. Alderman Boudreaux made a motion to accept the minutes as presented. Alderwoman Freeman seconded the motion; all members present voted in favor of the motion.
Mayor Sowell discussed the requirement for all members of the council to take two FEMA courses (IS-00100 and IS-00700) which are being required by the Grimes Co. Emergency Management office. Mayor Sowell took the courses a couple of years ago online but has learned that all elected officials are required to take the courses. A certificate of compliance will be presented upon completion.
City Attorney, John DeMille, advised members of the status of the Peavy property condemnation process. Inasmuch as Mr. Peavy was not present at the meeting, the council requested Mr. DeMille to post a condemnation notice on the property, and begin securing estimates for removal of the property. The Condemnation Notice should be placed on the structures by a member of the Inspection Board.
Mayor Sowell was asked about the Billy Bean property. Since Mr. Bean advised the Council that he would begin work on his property and would attend the January meeting, this subject was put on hold until January.
Mayor Sowell asked for review and approval of payment of all accounts currently due and payable. Alderwoman Freeman made a motion to pay the bills; Alderman Alford seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor of the motion.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:23 p.m. with a motion by Joe Boudreaux and a second by Daryl Alford. A Christmas meal was provided by Mayor Sowell to all members and friends present.
