Of Board of Aldermen
The Town of Anderson, Texas
December 13, 2012
Members Present: Gail Sowell, Mayor; Alderwomen: Erna Freeman, Carol DeBose, Karen McDuffie-Melton; Aldermen: Joe Boudreaux.
Members Absent: Tom Johanson
Visitors Present: Chester Finke, Kermit Bostelman, Cindy Bell, William Smith.
The Board of Aldermen of the Town of Anderson met in regular open session on December 13, 2012 in the American Legion Building in Anderson, Texas. There was a quorum and the meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. The Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Allegiance were recited.
Remarks of visitors are as follows: Cindy Bell reported that the Chamber of Commerce Banquet is to be held on Jan. 19th. She also thanked all the board of Alderman and Mayor Sowell for all they do throughout the year in service to the community.
Minutes of the previous meeting held on November 8, 2012 were read privately by each board member. A motion was made to approve the minutes as written by Erna Freeman. The motion was seconded by Joe Bourdeaux. Motion passed unanimously.
A motion was made by Erna Freeman to approve the amended and proposed budgets. Discussion followed with Mary Bostelman explaining the reason for the amended budget. The motion was seconded by Carol DeBose.
Joe Boudreaux made a motion to pay bills as noted. Carol DeBose seconded the motion. All approved.
Discussion was held on the property donated to the town by Derald Hudson and the late Lyle Howard many years ago. Attorney Angela Collier looked into the transaction that was never completed and found that Mr. Howard has since passed away. Mr. Hudson contacted Mayor Sowell about the taxes recently since he thought the property had been given to the town long ago. Mayor Sowell told Mr. Hudson the city would see what needed to be done in order to clear this matter up. Mayor Sowell with get with our attorney to see what needs to be done.
Mayor Sowell reported that Attorney Angela Collier-Seager stated she requested a warrant be signed by Judge John C. Fultz to be able to enter the Peavy property to continue with the condemnation. He requested to see the legal research before they can get a warrant. Angela Collier-Seager will stay on top of this subject.
Carol DeBose brought up a concern about a light that continuously goes on and off located on College/Woodward Streets. Mayor Sowell will have Tom to look at the light to see if it is a city light. It was then questioned if the light on South Main & Johnson St. is also a city pole street light. It was noted that the lights around the court house is paid for by the county. Karen McDuffie-Melton will check into the light situation with the Power Company and report back to the board.
There was no closed session.
Everyone in attendance was invited to stay after the meeting for a small gathering with food and drink.
