MINUTES OF MEETING

BOARD OF ALDERMEN
THE TOWN OF ANDERSON, TEXAS
May 15, 2012 The Board of Aldermen of the Town of Anderson met in special open
session in the American Legion Building in Anderson, Texas, at 7:26 p.m. on
Thursday, May 15, 2012 to canvass the returns of the May 12 election. Present were Mayor Gail Sowell, Alderwomen Erna Freeman, Carol DeBose, Aldermen Tom Johanson, Joe Boudreaux, Daryl Alford and City Attorney Angela Collier.
Visitors present were Cindy Bell, Chester Finke, Susan Boudreaux, Becky Duff,Karen McDuffie-Melton and Billy Bean.
Mayor Sowell presented Daryl Alford, retiring Alderman, with a plaque that expressed the appreciation of the members for the time he has spent as an Alderman for the city.
Mayor Sowell spent a few moments explaining the canvass procedure to visitors. A copy of the tally sheet is attached. Alderman Johanson made a motion to accept the tally as presented; Alderwoman Carol DeBose seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor of the motion.
City Attorney Angela Collier read the Oath of Office to Erna Freeman and Karen McDuffie-Melton who signed the oath and were welcomed to the council. The third position of Alderman will be determined in a runoff election to be held at a date to be determined. Until then, Alderman Joe Boudreaux will remain on the council.
The Board re-organized by asking for nominations for Mayor Pro-Tem and Secretary. Alderman Boudreaux made a motion to keep Alderwoman Freeman as our Mayor Pro-Tem; the motion was seconded by Alderman Johanson. A motion was made by Alderman Boudreaux to keep Alderman Johanson as Secretary; Alderwoman Freeman seconded the motion. All members present voted in favor of the motion.
A discussion followed between Attorney Collier, Mayor Sowell and Becky Duff of the elections department for Grimes Co. to begin the process of the runoff election.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:56 p.m.
